Cory Stillman had a celebrated career. He had a number of noteworthy achievements during this playing career. Here are the highlights of his achievements.

#1 OHL Rookie of the Year (Emms Family Award)

The Emms Family Award is given annually to the top first year player in the Ontario Hockey League.

Leighton ‘Hap’ Emms, former owner of franchises in Barrie, St. Catharines and Niagra Falls, donated the award to the OHL.

This is a very prestigious award for young hockey players. Cory Stillman received this award in 1990-1991.

#2 OHL Champion

The OHL Cup is hosted by the Ontario Hockey League and operated by the Greater Toronto Hockey League. It provides an extra scouting opportunity to minor midget players in Ontario and other districts. The tournament originally started as a Bantam tournament. Later, when age groups in Canada were realigned to match the international classification, the tournament was changed to Minor Midget tournament. Cory Stillman received this award in 1992-1993.

#3 NHL Stanley Cup Champion

Cory Stillman won the NHL Stanley Cup two times in consecutive years; in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006.

He is one of the few players to receive this year in consecutive years playing for two different teams. Stanley Cup is the oldest professional sports trophy in North America.

Cory Stillman was a consistent player. In whichever team he played, he tried to play his best. Not many people can achieve what he has achieved in this playing career.

An Overlook at Cory’s Life and Professional Career

Cory Stillman was born on December 20, 1973. He is a retired Canadian professional Ice Hockey player. He played inthe National Hockey League (NHL) for a number of terms from 1994 to 2011. He is married to Mara Stefanski. They have three children named Riley, Madison and Chase. His father-in-law, Bud Stefanski, is a former AHL player. He was the Coach and GM of the Mississuaga St. Michael’s Majors of the OHL from 2003 to 2007.

Cory Stillman grew up in Peterborough, Ontario. He played hockey for the Minor Petes (OMHA) program. He played competitive baseball also. He played for the Peterborough Roadrunners Jr. B. (MTJHL) hockey club in 1989-90. He became the 2nd round choice of the Windsor Spitfires in the 1990 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. He started his professional career in 1992 where he was drafted sixth in the first round by the Calgary Flames.

In the 1994-95 season, Stillman made his NHL debut for the Calgary Flames. The following year, he started getting regular roster spot. He played for six years in Calgary. He became a consistent 20-goal scorer.

In 2001, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues where he continued his trend of scoring more than 20 goals a season. He played for St. Louis Blues for three seasons.

He was traded to Tampa Bay at the 2003 entry draft. There he helped Lightning win the Stanley Cup in 2004. In 2005, Stillman signed a three-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. His team also won that year’s Stanley Cup. He was the 11th player ever to win consecutive Cups with different teams.

On July, 2008, Stillman signed a three-year contract with the Florida Panthers worth $10.6 million.

In 2011, he played his 1000th NHL Game against the Philadelphia Flyers in Florida.

Later, Florida Panthers traded Stillman back to the Carolina Hurricanes for Ryan Carter.In September, 2011, Cory Stillman announced his retirement. He is now working as a development staff for the Hurricanes players.
